Hi there!
My name is Marion (aka Mimi) Schweitzer and I am a general lab assistant for the Abolition lab team! I am here to learn as well guide people through the new technological advancements being made in our library and through people’s classes. My majors are in Secondary Education and History so this was right up my alley!
One of my biggest reasons for applying for this position was to aid in the efforts to allow the humanities studies (ranging from theatre to business) ways to connect more to technology. A lot of stereotypes and thoughts behind humanities studies follow along with old archives, and dusty books in libraries. While there is a truth in that, the world of humanitarian studies is growing and building! There is an effort to digitalize and connect technology to these studies, however, there are challenges. As a historian, but also as a future educator, I want to help in the effort to make our worlds more digitalized, and learn how to use these tools myself so that I can pass them on to future generations.
I am most eager to be working with and building relationships with all of the classes and seminars I will be aiding in! I love building relationships with people, and all I can ask for is patience as I learn how to use these new tools that we are being trained for. I am also looking forward to becoming more technologically advanced, as there have been times I think pen and paper is the best way to go. Growing with technology will only help me in the future, and will hopefully allow me to inspire students to use and build off of technological tools (as well as connect them more to the humanities studies).
I will look forward to seeing/meeting a lot of you in the future, and please don’t hesitate to say hello to me if you see me around!
