The Abolition for All Time Humanities Conference
April 4-6, 2025
Knox College
As we close the final year of the Andrew W. Mellon “Abolition for All Time” Humanities Lab grant, the Abolition Lab at Knox College is proud to announce a conference celebrating the completion of scholarly and pedagogical projects, community outreach, and professional development over the past three years. The conference seeks to bring together all past and present faculty, staff, students, institutional partners, and community collaborators to share their work.
Since its inception, the objective of the Abolition Lab has been to create space, support, and opportunities for critically engaging the history of abolition at Knox College and how this legacy can serve as a guiding principle for social justice and activism today. As a lab, this project tasked lab collaborators to mobilize in preparation for a future of innovation, creativity, civic engagement, interdisciplinarity, and digital transformation. Over the past three years, the Abolition Lab has grown to be a physical and figurative space; a site for interrogating narratives about identity, empowerment, resistance, and accountability.
Focused on these issues, we invite work reflecting, sharing, and exploring the following topics:
- Team contributions
- Abolition in the past, present, and future
- Civic engagement
- Curricular innovation
- Interdisciplinary collaboration
- Storytelling
- Digital Humanities
We also welcome work centered on the following themes:
- Anticolonialism and decolonization
- Cultural heritage
- Issues of open access, open source, and open data
- Accessibility
- Borders, migration, and diaspora
- Transnational and global dialogues
Presentations can take a variety of formats, including (but not limited to):
- Traditional paper panels
- Roundtable discussions
- Lightning talks
- Poster sessions
